When a baptism service is disrupted by a man claiming he’s the rightful father of the child, and not the smiling parents around the font, Will and Geordie find themselves drawn into a complicated family dispute which seems to be connected to the murder of Joan Beaumont, the head of a local adoption agency. With both sets of parents having reasons to want Joan silenced, are any of them responsible for her death? Meanwhile at the vicarage, a sinister blackmail letter arrives for Leonard, forcing Will to visit his own difficult family in the hopes of raising the money to pay the demand. But when his newly-arrived-in-town step-sister, Tamara, jeopardises Will’s chances with step-dad St John, Leonard decides to take matters into his own hands – and face his blackmailer, alone…

When a woman is found dead, laid out in the shape of a crucifix on Jesus Green, Will and Geordie discover the ring on her finger proves she was married to God – and a former nun at an oppressive convent. And as Geordie and Larry both agree – there’s nothing scarier than a nun…
At the convent they meet steely Sister Grace, who rules over her flock with an iron fist. But even more sinister is the picture that starts to emerge as they match the nuns to a series of unsolved missing persons cases from the last five years. This is anything but a place of sanctuary. But can Geordie and Will save its victims before it’s too late?
All the while, Will tries to deal with his own feelings of guilt – what he needs is a kindred spirit, able to salve his aching soul. What’s certain is this won’t be a birthday he’s likely to forget any time soon…
When Leonard’s dad, Russell, arrives in Grantchester, it’s clear there’s no love lost between father and son. But in order to heal the wounds of the past, will these two men be able to find common ground?
The synopsis for episode 2 of “Grantchester”, which will air on ITV on Friday 17 January 2020, has been released.
All I will say is … oh, Amelia.
Will and Leonard witness a deadly and deliberate hit-and-run in Grantchester. Geordie traces the car to a pair of decidedly dysfunctional brothers whose house lies far off the beaten path. The victim’s wife, his employee and the two brothers are all damaged characters caught in a web of lies and betrayals, and it’s not just secrets that are hiding within the brothers’ grounds.
And at home, Will and Geordie both struggle as unwelcome guests look set to stay. Will’s mum Amelia seems to have found a carbon copy of his late father in her new beau, St John. All of which makes Will supremely grateful for his new mission at the boxing gym, helping wayward youths with new pal, Vic Morgan.
And a new television set lands in the Vicarage – just in time for Eurovision! As Leonard tries to bustle Mrs C out for the night, is it more than just this ‘coming together of nations’ that’s getting him excited?
