Jemma Redgrave – Rehearsed Reading of “Hansard” at Scarborough Theatre

(UPDATE: Please note the performance date has changed to Monday 19 October 2020 at 7.30pm)

Jemma Redgrave and Simon Slater are to present a rehearsed reading of “Hansard” at Scarborough’s Steven Joseph Theatre.

The reading will take place in the Round at 7.30pm on Monday 19 October 2020. The synopsis of the play is:

It’s a summer’s morning in 1988 and Tory politician Robin Hesketh has returned home to the idyllic Cotswold house he shares with his wife of 30 years, Diana. But all is not as blissful as it seems. Diana has a stinking hangover, a fox is destroying the garden, and secrets are being dug up all over the place. As the day draws on, what starts as gentle ribbing and the familiar rhythms of marital sparring quickly turns to blood-sport.

Paul Robinson, Artistic Director at the SJT, says: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have attracted two actors of the stature of Jemma and Simon to bring a reading of Simon Woods’ brutally funny, but ultimately moving, political satire to the SJT.”

Tickets for Hansard are priced from £10. Booking opens at 10am on Friday 2 October – due to social distancing restrictions, numbers are extremely limited for this one-off event. Please visit the website: sjt.uk.com/whatson or call the Box Office on 01723 370541 (currently open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 11am to 4pm, for both phone calls and in-person bookings).

“Mood Music” to be Streamed Free on Youtube

The Old Vic have announced that their second live stream play to feature on Youtube will be “Mood Music”. It will be available free to watch on Youtube between 8 July 2020 and 14 July 2020. This is a great chance for those unable to see this during it’s run to now experience Jemma on stage.

Behind its seductive and glamorous veneer, the music industry has a dark side. Whether it’s bitter legal battles fought by the likes of George Michael, Kesha and Tulisa, or the lost lives of Amy Winehouse and Chris Cornell, the price of fame and success can be brutal.

‘The music industry isn’t about healing heartbreak and vulnerability. It’s about selling it.’

In a top London recording studio, Cat, a young songwriter, her producer Bernard, their lawyers and psychotherapists go to battle over who owns a hit song. Amidst a gathering storm of bitter complaints and recriminations Cat and Bernard inflict a devastating toll on each other.

With heartfelt thanks to the generosity of all the casts, creatives and companies involved, a selection of full length Old Vic archive recordings of selected productions since Matthew Warchus became Artistic Director in 2015 will be hosted for free on The Old Vic’s YouTube channel. This will give audiences the chance to revisit loved collector’s item productions, or watch for the first time.

The second show to air will be Mood Music, the world premiere of which played over The Old Vic’s 200th birthday in 2018. This timely play about power, passion and the price of creativity is written by Joe Penhall (Sunny Afternoon, Blue/Orange) and directed by Roger Michell (Notting Hill, Enduring Love).

The production, featuring the original cast, will go live at 7pm on Wednesday 08 July and will be available to watch until Tuesday 14 July.

The Old Vic Our Shows Screenings are supported by Royal Bank of Canada and PwC.
