Jemma Redgrave in ‘Love & Friendship’ official HD Trailer & Screen Caps

Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions have dropped a trailer for Whit Stillman’s Jane Austen adaptation Love & Friendship, which received a very warm response out of its Sundance Film Festival premiere. Based on the Austen novella Lady Susan, the film follows a manipulative, charming woman who has run through her late husband’s fortune and is now on the prowl for a new hubby. However, she’s doing double-duty courtship, as she’s trying to marry off her daughter as well. Stillman told us at Sundance that he’s looking forward to the period piece being a date movie on the summer schedule, particularly with its May 13 release date. The trailer truly captures the filmmaker’s hysterical absurdist wit and Kate Beckinsale’s pitch-perfect performance. Read Lady Susan’s comments on one gentleman caller: “He’s handsome in a calf-like way”. Or even better the trailer’s button where Lady Susan rebukes a polite man after he greets her: “How dare you address me sir! Be gone or I’ll have you whipped!”. Then turning to her American friend Alicia Johnson (Chloe Sevigny), the Lady doth sayest, “I know him well, I would never speak to a stranger like that.” Love & Friendship marks the reunion between Beckinsale and Sevigny after Stillman’s 1998 The Last Days of Disco.
