Big Finish – “UNIT: Incursions” – Story Details

Big Finish have released more details for “UNIT: Incursions” which is released in April 2019.

8.1 This Sleep of Death by Jonathan Morris
8.2 Tempest by Lisa McMullin
8.3/8.4 The Power of River Song by Guy Adams

Threats to our planet come in many forms. Some are alien visitations, some lay dormant in Earth itself, and occasionally, danger arrives with a big gun and fantastic hair.
Whatever the threat, whoever the enemy, UNIT is ready to defend the world.

8.1 This Sleep of Death by Jonathan Morris

Abbey Marston. UNIT’s dark secret. A place where the laws of space and time, life and death, can be suspended. Where remembering the departed has consequences… When UNIT faces a threat from a dead man, Kate has no choice but to return to Abbey Marston once more, to disturb the sleep of death. But the Static are waiting…

8.2 Tempest by Lisa McMullin

When the planet’s weather systems start behaving strangely, Osgood is worried. Soon, she and Sam Bishop are heading to a remote Scottish island where an eccentric old woman speaks to the wind itself.
Meanwhile, Kate Stewart visits a deep-sea oil-rig where strange things are afoot. A tempest is coming, and it could be disaster for the entire world.

8.3 The Power of River Song part 1 by Guy Adams

UNIT has been assigned to monitor the switch-on of a revolutionary new power system – they know from experience such things can be tricky.
Nearby, Osgood and Lieutenant Bishop investigate mysterious disappearances – and appearances of trans-temporal phenomena. Kate would like to ask the Director some questions, but she’s proving strangely elusive… until there’s a murder.

8.4 The Power of River Song part 2 by Guy Adams

There’s a dead body in the power station. River Song is the prime suspect. And Kate is most concerned by the identity of the victim.
Meanwhile, Sam and Jacqui chase Vikings, while Osgood finds herself out of time. As deadly predators focus their attention on Earth, it seems activating the power of River Song could spell the end of everything…

This Sleep of Death by Jonathan Morris follows on from the Sixth Doctor’s adventure Static, the Main Range release from December 2017. What UNIT now encounter will surely conclude a truly terrifying story.

Tempest by Lisa McMullin sees the UNIT team on a mission in Scotland where oil rigs are under threat in the Hebrides, and there’s a chilling breeze in the air…

And The Power of River Song by Guy Adams will find the UNIT team helping a scientific project for total renewable energy, led by a mysterious curly-haired director. And on this mission, one of the team will make the ultimate sacrifice for time itself…

The UNIT team are back together, with Jemma Redgrave playing Kate Stewart, Ingrid Oliver as Osgood, Warren Brown as Lieutenant Sam Bishop, and James Joyce as Josh Carter. Two new recruits also join the team as Andrew French plays Sergeant Warren Calder and Ajjaz Awad plays Private Meghan Coates.

Plus Alex Kingston reprises her role as Professor River Song and Tracy Wiles reprises her role as Jacqui McGee. Also staring in this series are Hywel Morgan, Alexandra Mathie, Chris Jarman, Enzo Squillino Jnr and Leighton Pugh.

UNIT: Incursions will be released in April 2019, priced at £23 on CD or £20 on download. Don’t forget that every CD purchase unlocks a download exclusive via the Big Finish app or the Big Finish website.

UNIT: Assembled – More Information and first cover revealed

As first exclusively revealed in this month’s Doctor Who Magazine, Big Finish have some very special news indeed about the fourth set of UNIT – The New Series…

New and classic eras of UNIT will come together in Big Finish’s four-disc audio drama UNIT: Assembled, which is released in May 2017. The ongoing series, which tells the further adventures of Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) and Osgood (Ingrid Oliver) gains three special recruits for the box set – Jo Jones (Katy Manning), John Benton (John Levene) and Mike Yates (Richard Franklin).

‘We went into our UNIT audio dramas with the aim of keeping them centred on the new series era of the organisation,’ says producer David Richardson. ‘But after two years of releases, the time has come to look fondly to the past… and when an old enemy threatens the world, Kate Stewart needs the help of her father’s colleagues.’

The old enemy in question is the Silurian race, here represented in their new series form and played by Richard Hope and Neve McIntosh (who worked together as Silurians in The Hungry Earth and Cold Blood).

‘A hibernating population of reptiles has awoken,’ David reveals, ‘and their leader Jastrok has a very different plan for getting the world back and ridding it of the pesky apes.’

One episode in the box set also centres on the Sea Devils, as Jo Jones must try and fill the shoes of her Doctor in order to save the world. Nicholas Briggs, the voice of the Daleks, plays the Sea Devil leader Krellix.

‘I’m so thrilled by this box set,’ says David. ‘It’s a great big story but full of heart and loving references to the past – little Easter Eggs that will delight everyone who has seen the era of the Third Doctor. And it was wonderful to have such legends as Katy, John and Richard with us at the recording, acting together in those roles for the first time since 1974. For everyone involved, this was very special indeed.’

UNIT: Assembled is written by Matt Fitton and Guy Adams, and directed by Ken Bentley. A fifth disc in the box set features behind the scenes interviews with the cast and crew. The cover (revealed today) is by Tom Webster.

The set is currently at a pre-order price of £20 for either Download or CD, or can be bought as part of a UNIT – The New Series bundle which collects together the four UNIT – The New Series sets for £80 on CD or Download.

UNIT: Shutdown – Listen to the trailer!

The Tengobushi are nearly here, and Kate Stewart’s next great battle is about to begin. Check out our preview of Big Finish blockbuster box-set…

The Unified Intelligence Taskforce – an international initiative to investigate and confront alien attacks across the planet Earth. From a secret headquarters in the Tower of London, the UK division is led by Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) – the daughter of the legendary Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart – an expert in combating the extra-terrestrial threats that seek to conquer the world.

UNIT’s latest threat comes in the form of the terrifying Tengobushi, a mysterious caste of alien warriors, whose reasons for arriving on Earth are linked to a dangerous new initiative. Discover their deadly plan for the world in an all-new trailer, available to listen to on the range page here or via the SoundCloud player below:

Aiding Kate against these new enemies is her able science officer Petronella Osgood (Ingrid Oliver), whose attempts at a social life are put in danger by the aliens. International troubleshooter Lieutenant Sam Bishop (Warren Brown) also returns to action alongside Captain Josh Carter (James Joyce).

Hindering UNIT is Felicity Lyme, played by Alice Krige (Star Trek: First Contact, Chariots of Fire, Deadwood). Lyme’s interests stretch across the globe, and her influence will have disastrous consequences for Kate Stewart. Dan Li portrays the Tengobushi’s master Dokan; whose military genius and unbreakable discipline prove more than a match for UNIT’s veteran soldiers.

The set has been directed by Ken Bentley and written by Matt Fitton and Andrew Smith. It contains the following four stories:

2.1 Power Cell by Matt Fitton

Osgood and Captain Josh Carter are sent to investigate the disappearance of a UNIT scientist.

Meanwhile, alien technology has fallen into the hands of Lyme Industries, and Kate Stewart can’t persuade the company’s CEO, Felicity Lyme, to give it back.

But UNIT find themselves fighting a third battle when innocent people start to die. Who are the mysterious assassins? And what does Felicity Lyme want with top secret alien technology?

2.2 Death in Geneva by Andrew Smith

With few people left to trust, and with assassins on their tail, Kate and Osgood race to UNIT Command in Geneva. Will General Blair be able to help them?

But when death follows UNIT all the way from the English countryside to the snowy slopes of the Alps, Captain Carter finds himself in a race against time.

As the body count rises, Kate struggles to separate friend from foe, danger circles Osgood ever closer, and, high in the mountains, Josh comes face to face with the enemy…

2.3 The Battle of the Tower by Andrew Smith

The threat is now clear, and Kate Stewart retreats to UNIT HQ with her most trusted colleagues. She has no choice but to place the Black Archive into lockdown, and the Tower of London is where UNIT will make its stand.

While the capital sleeps, an alien horde is gathering, ready to rise from the shadows to attack Earth’s greatest defence force inside its own stronghold.

The Tower is infiltrated, and UNIT must hold the line. At any cost. Lock and load…

2.4 Ice Station Alpha by Matt Fitton

Caught between human greed and an unstoppable alien power, Kate Stewart leads her closest allies on one final, desperate mission. This could be the very last chance for the human race.

But the UNIT team has been declared rogue, and ruthless military forces are in pursuit as they race across the globe. Kate calls Lieutenant Sam Bishop to their aid, while Josh and Osgood head out across the frozen Antarctic plains to try and prevent a disaster no-one else knows is coming.

UNIT: Shutdown can be pre-ordered today ahead of its release later this month for just £20 on both CD and to download. You can also order as part of the UNIT: The New Series bundle, alongside 2015’s UNIT: Extinction, November’s UNIT: Silenced and a fourth box-set due for release in 2017.
